About
This Space

This charming and peaceful 2 bedroom apartment is located 5 flights (you can work off those croissants and French cheese) up to the top floor of a beautiful 17th century building in the heart of the Latin Quarter, and was recently featured on International Open House on US television. Located right off the Place de la Sorbonne with its world-famous university, it is virtually a stone's throw to the beautiful Luxembourg Garden with the famous Saint Germain shopping quarter right behind, and only a 5-minute walk to the Seine with the Notre Dame cathedral just across the bridge on the Ile de la Cité, the heart of medieval Paris.

This rooftop duplex has its original beam-work throughout and antique floor tiles in the entrance, giving it the feeling of a country house in the middle of Paris. Open and airy, it is furnished for comfort and coziness in warm, rich hues, with many of its features such as stairwell, mantelpiece, sinks and cabinetry having been sourced from "brocantes," the French answer to antique markets.

Renovated and decorated by the Franco-American owner, the apartment is a mix of arty and old world, with many decorative items lovingly chosen from her travels. Every aspect has been thoughtfully chosen to create an atmosphere of warmth and serenity; the only danger is that once you arrive, you will never want to leave!

The bathroom has antique stone travertine tiles throughout, along with rich wood flooring that makes it a pleasure to step out of the bathtub. The petite yet functional kitchen has all new appliances including gas cooktop, electric oven, and Miele washer and dryer. Just past the antique ceramic sink and the oak bar, the kitchen opens onto the dining area of the long, rectangular living space with its country dining room table on one end next to the decorative fireplace, and the living area with its couch you just want to sink into, opposite. Flooded with light from the living room double windows and two skylights, one really does feel tucked up and away under Paris' rooftops; a lovely respite from the busy streets below.

The living area provides a flat-screen television, which comes with English-speaking channels including BBC, CNN, & ESPN Sports, a VCR and an all-zone DVD player with the owner's large selection of movies to pick from. Free international calls to landlines in 63 countries as well as to mobile phones in the US and Canada is also provided.

The two bedrooms, each with queen-sized bed — one upstairs, one downstairs — are perfect for retiring to after a long day spent sightseeing. The downstairs bedroom, which faces the courtyard, provides absolute silence, while upstairs one drifts off surrounded by the stunning 350 year-old beams that are the apartment’s bones, but also its heart.

Of
Note

  • The renter acknowledges the fact that there is a staircase & large wooden beams in the apartment that could potentially be dangerous for children, especially if they were to climb on the beams. Renter agrees that Haven in Paris & the apartment owner will not be liable for any injuries caused by or related to the use of this staircase OR caused by or related to anyone climbing on the wooden beams. Please note:
  • This apartment is a 5th floor walk up & and has an interior stairway inside the flat that goes up to one of the bedrooms. This may be a problem for small children or anyone who has trouble walking.
  • Due to limited space in the bathroom, the hot water heater in this apartment has a small capacity. We would estimate that it has about 12 minutes worth of hot water when at full shower pressure. The tank then takes about 30 minutes to refill completely with hot water.
  • There are curtains on the downstairs bedroom windows, and blinds on the living room windows. While the upstairs bedroom does stay quite dark, there might be some early morning light that comes in through the uncovered skylights over the kitchen and stairs. Though most guests are not bothered by this, if you require a blacked-out flat for sleeping, the upstairs bedroom in this property might not be the ideal choice for you.

Suzanne and Daniel November, 2015 Australia

The apartment was everything we'd hoped for and more. Quirky, luxurious, well-considered design, interesting and full of character. Mirroring our own home in many ways, we loved discovering the layers of collected pieces the owner has so lovingly curated. St Germaine is our place in Paris! Well stocked vintage stores (Repetto ballet flats @ one third of price new and much more). We also spent a wonderful, magical day, whisked back in time, in the Loire Valley, enjoying immensely the magnificence of Les Chateaus, without having to negotiate hiring a car, driving and finding our way to each location. Mark recommended a lovely restaurant for lunch which was memorable and delicious! We would definitely call Mark for more of that service as we wish to see more of surrounding Paris next time. Haven in Paris - you've done it again!

Formidable! We feel very fortunate to have stumbled across Haven in Paris and then this apartment! As I write, the late spring breeze carries the sounds of Paris and cooling air throughout the entire apartment. This has been a tremendous location for us to explore all that Paris has to offer, and the selection of shops and restaurants nearby is tremendous! The décor and appointments truly made this a haven for us, giving us room to relax and decompress after the hustle and bustle of the rest of the city. We loved hearing the live music from Place de la Sorbonne in the evenings. Jusqu'à la prochaine fois! Nous vous envoyons vos sentiments tout distingues!

Vivianne S. June, 2015 Miami, FL

My children (Maximilian and Esmeralda) and I had a wonderful stay in your lovely and well-appointed apartment! It felt like a second home, which is the highest compliment I can give you! We hope our travels will bring us back to Paris and back to this refuge...

The Karegeannes May, 2015 Asheville, NC

We had a wonderful week in Paris visiting all the landmarks and exploring the city. The apartment was wonderful as well, and hopefully we'll be able to visit again. There's so much to do here, I hope we can come back.

We are so pleased to have discovered HiP while planning a trip to Paris with our 14 year old niece. The Left Bank Rooftop apartment was perfect for our small party - a married couple and a teenager. She loved her private loft bedroom and the distinct personality of the apartment and its furnishings gave her a taste of what it is to live in Paris. The flat was ideally located, quiet, and amply supplied with all we needed for a comfortable week. The reservation process went smoothly, and the HiP team, both here in the US and our greeter in Paris, was responsive and professional, and we especially appreciated the binder of info on the flat, the neighborhood and Paris itself. We used some of the recommended service providers, and found them to be similarly professional and helpful. We will look to HiP for our future rental needs and strongly recommend them to others.

We had such a lovely week in this beautiful apartment. The decor is so charming and unique. It was a welcoming haven to return to each evening. We can't wait to return!

Our Left Bank Penthouse was the most wonderful experience. We were initially concerned about the 5th floor walk-up, but soon became accustomed to it and enjoyed the lofty feeling. The apartment felt lived in rather than the sterile units we've had in the past. It has so much character and with the wood beams and floor it reminded me of living on a boat or log cabin. Our greeter, Loredana couldn't have been more helpful. She was always available by phone and eager to answer any questions or provide help to make our stay enjoyable. She became a new best friend. We have rented through several other agencies and HIP is by far the most professional and caring. Quick responses and easy booking processes. I also feel HIP "vets" the owners and properties.

This is a lovely apartment. Thank you for letting us stay. We really enjoyed staying in Paris and hearing the music playing from the square. Thank you again!

The Howden Family July, 2014 High River, Canada

Parfait! Your funky, homey, comfortable apartment was perfect for our Mom and girls trip ages 11 - 20. An oasis after long, hard days of sightseeing and shopping. The area was great for affordable, teen shopping, close to the Luxembourg Garden, Notre Dame and the lock bridge. It was a "happening" area but not too crowded. Your apartment is well equipped - all the comforts of home. Flowers were a lovely touch as well as umbrellas and shopping/picnic baskets. Pillows were awesome. This place is cozy, but not at all crowded. Loredana was easy to connect with and very thorough in explaining what we needed to know about the apartment. Very chic! Many thanks and I will recommend this place to my Canadian friends.

The Currie Family July, 2014 Oklahoma, USA

Merci beaucoup! We had a lovely time in Paris with the Left Bank Rooftop as our "home" for the week. While we spent a great deal of our time out in the city, it was such a comfort to return here each evening. Thank you for sharing your charming, comfortable, and cozy home with us.

Alison B. June, 2014 Valencia, CA

We had an amazing week in your beautiful apartment. From the spectacular rain and lightning shows to the cool breezes through the open windows, your lovely home has charmed us. We are sad to leave, but plan to return! Many thanks for providing us with such an unforgettable week.

Maria B. June, 2014 Arlington, VA

We enjoyed a wonderful and very memorable stay in Paris. It was the perfect way and place to stay for our 20th anniversary celebration. Thank you for making it special and for your personal touches.

Howard A. June, 2014 Pheonix, Arizona

Thanks so very much for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home. It is truly a jewel, with all the comforts of home. This creative and restful space helped us to really experience Paris to the fullest. Delicious food, wonderful art, and gracious people. We look forward to our next visit.

Amy H. June, 2014 Chapel Hill, NC

Our family loved your comfortable apartment. It is in a fabulous location! It was a lovely respite after busy days visiting museums, monuments, and enjoying the many treasures in Paris. We had a memorable dinner at the recommended Brasserie de Pont Louis Phillippe where we listened to the accordionist play traditional songs. Thank you very much!

J Grigg April, 2014 London UK

Our apartment was exactly as depicted - lovely with a bohemian feel, suited us very well. The location was perfect for us. The restaurant, cafe and bakery recommendations left by the owner and HiP were extremely helpful as was the ipad. The little kitchen was very well equipped and we used it very happily. The bathroom exceeded most European standards by a mile and I'm sure would have even pleased the pickiest American!

Emily Werner September, 2012 Melbourne, VIC, Australia

Loved the whole experience. The apartment was as described and the greeters fabulous and very helpful. The team have been amazing to work with and would love to come back to Leftbank Rooftop Apartment for my next visit.

Mellon/ Freeman/ Benkowski July, 2012 Paris

We had a very good stay in the apartment. Ahead of our stay, Haven in Paris was responsive and accommodating. When arrived, our agent waited to greet us patiently as we arrived many hours late, due to late arrival at the airport followed by a long taxi ride into town as the result of a five car accident on the way in. We thought Wendy our greeter was excellent. She was pleasant, helpful, and when we left was punctual, impressive given our at-dawn departure. We also appreciated the welcoming bottle of wine and flowers. As for the apartment, the location was terrific. It should not be advertized and rented as a "duplex," however, as it is in fact a one-bedroom with a loft sleeping chamber. For tall people, or older people, the beams and stair case could prove hazardous. The five flights of stairs to the apartment could be daunting to people who are not reasonably physically fit. The apartment was charming, very clean, with lovely towels, and time and care had been spent on it by its owner. I'd recommended the owner put away some of the decorations and invest in proper slip covers for furniture as these are areas of concern for her. There is a bit too much of the "precious" in some of the items placed in a very small space. Also, note that the vases flanking the fireplace are not Chinese, but depict Japanese scenes. Given the flat's location at the top of a building with a narrow, spiral stair, we'd also suggest some guidance on fire escape protocol, if there is one. Otherwise, needless to say, the neighborhood is extremely convenient. We hired a driver through Haven to tour outside the city. David was excellent. He is a car service, not a guide, so perhaps Haven could also list some guides to accompany people on excursions. Overall, we had a wonderful time. This is second time we've rented a flat in Paris and we were highly satisfied. Note from HIP: Since the apartment is split on 2 levels, and has an internal staircase, we have named it as a duplex. We do have some guides listed on our Luxury Service Page: http://www.haveninparis.com/luxe.php#c9

Andi Arnovitz April, 2012 Jerusalem

This apartment was beautifully appointed, luxurious sheets and towels, all kinds of antiques and artwork, and it was a pleasure to come back after a long day to relax there. An added bonus was that it is extraordinarily quiet despite the fact that Boulevard St. Michel is one block away. It was so centrally located, and everything one could possibly need is just a few minutes walk away. The only thing we worried about were the stairs, but quite frankly given the number of french pastries we consumed, the stairs made us feel slightly less guilty.

Amy Kelsey September, 2011 Sacramento, CA, USA

My sister and I just got back from our stay in the Left Bank Rooftop apartment, and I can't say enough good things about our experience! The apartment was even better than we expected it to be. I think the thing that makes this apartment unique is that the owner has decorated it beautifully with her own collection of items and artifacts from around the world. It didn't feel cluttered or busy at all; just very warm and inviting, like a home rather than a sterile Ikea-inspired rental property. We found both of the beds to be incredibly comfortable (no back problems!) and it was surprisingly quiet at night. In the evenings if we left the windows open, we could hear pleasant sounds drifting up from the cafes in the plaza below, but that all died down by 10 or 11pm, and closing the windows completely drowned out any noises that we didn't want to hear. The bathroom was wonderful; it has great lighting, a rain-style shower head (we never had a problem with hot water or water pressure), and it was very spacious for a European bathroom. The kitchen was small but nice to use and very well-equipped. The basics such as olive oil, vinegars, dried herbs and spices, salt, pepper, etc. are all provided. The living space was inviting and comfortable, with a wonderful iPod/iPhone dock that's connected to very nice speakers so you can play music if you like. There is also a flat-screen TV and huge collection of DVDs to watch on a rainy night. The bedding and towels were high-quality, and they provide a huge stack of towels and washcloths so that you never need to wash a towel if you don't want to. We did use the washer and dryer a couple of times, and they were pretty slow, but still handy to have. The hair dryer is very good, and umbrellas are provided, although they are rather old and not super-compact. The location is perfect; there are three Metro stops within a few blocks, and you can walk in any direction and find yourself in a wonderful neighborhood. St. Germain, Ile-St-Louis, Notre-Dame, the Marais, beautiful Luxembourg Gardens, etc. are all a few blocks away. We took the RER train in from the airport and we were pleasantly surprised to find how close the apartment is to the Luxembourg RER stop. This is a major plus, because you don't have to switch to the Metro with your luggage; you can get on at CDG and get off 2 blocks from the apartment. As others have said, the 5 flights of stairs can be daunting at the end of a long day, but we just used them as an excuse to eat more baguettes and cheese and pastries!

M. Connelly August, 2011 Canada

The apartment was amazing: clean and well kept. Wendy, the greeter was spectacular; my thanks to her for all of her help. I would certainly return.

Anita & Steve Kaplan June, 2011 Larkspur, California, USA

This was our second visit to the Champollion rooftop duplex apartment, and we loved every minute of our stay. It feels like our home in Paris, and the location is superb. We loved picking up divine baked goods at Gerard Mulot pâtisserie and then wandering into the Luxembourg Gardens to relax and watch people go by. The apartment has every amenity you could wish for, and while in the heart of Paris is quiet and serene. Coming 'home' every evening was relaxing and delightful.

Steven, Jo and family. June, 2011 Albury,NSW, Australia.

We found HIP excellent, down to recommending an English speaking Parisian driver who picked us up at the airport and dropped us to the door of our apartment, even helping us carry our bags up the stairs. The apartment was as great as it looked on the website. Very well appointed with all modern conveniences and located meters off Bld St.Michel. The apartment is in a wonderful location from which to explore the Left Bank, with metros and bus stops close by, the Seine an easy walk away and plenty of cafes, restaurants and shopping. The Luxembourg Gardens are just a few minutes by foot and we spent many hours watching the world pass us, as we ate our sorbets. Two points to consider for interested parties are the five flights of stairs up to the apartment and that there is no air con. We were in Paris when it reached 27 Celsius and were cool enough with the supplied fans, various windows and Velux window. For some, the steps up to the mezzanine bedroom are quite steep and would not suit young children. That said, our five and eight year olds managed the stairs well. Our Greeter was a big plus too. She was there on arrival and helped us get our bearings with the apartment and the neighborhood. It was great to have access to her us when we had any queries.

Cecile June, 2011 Gainesville, FL, USA

This property is very clean, comfortable, beautifully decorated, and has all the amenities I need. It is in a wonderful location: shops, restaurants, metro stations, etc. While I loved being on the top floor, it is important to note the five flights of spiral stairs getting up to the apartment, as well as the steep stairs getting up to the small loft space.

Andrea Albanese March, 2011 Canada

I really appreciated the time the staff took to answer my questions about the apartment especially about noise as I am an extremely light sleeper. The apartment was great...very Parisian and I prefer it to a hotel even though there are no "staff" to interact with. The walk up is a little grueling with luggage; however, it was fine WITHOUT luggage. I like that anything that might be a problem for some is fully disclosed and noted. It shows that the most important thing is finding the right property for the client...not just renting a flat for the sake of renting it. Beds and bed linen were extremely comfortable. The binder on the property is a great idea and I have recommended that the Ventian agency we used do something similar for their properties. The internet and phone were a little complicated but Wendy explained it fully and further instructions were available in the property binder. The weather was lovely when we were there and we were very comfortable. My daughter loved the loft bedroom and found the bed very comfortable as well. I would recommend HIP to anyone and everyone.

Anouk S. November, 2010 New York, NY USA

This was our second Haven in Paris stay and though the apartment was different, the experience was equally wonderful. The apartment was beautiful – perfect for our stay and I really couldn't think of anything that I would suggest needed changing. It was lovely – clean and well kept – we felt as comfortable as if we were in our own home – only able to relax more without all those nagging house-hold things that bug you when you are at home! (we have stayed in apartments in other cities in the US and abroad and know that it isn't always the case…). It was very well equipped and we were in need of nothing other than the things we bought for ourselves to indulge in. Our greeter Mika, was very sweet and helpful and the taxi service that you recommended, Andy Waters, was also great, meeting us at the airport – even though our plane arrived early – and on time to take us back for our departure. We plan on going back to Paris in the not too distant future – hopefully:) – and we will be definitely be staying in one of your apartments again, if you will have us! Thank you so much.

A. Samuel October, 2010 Wellington, New Zealand

I loved my time at the Champollion apartment. it was charming and warm and really felt like home. I particularly appreciated that the owner had left her own stuff there - it added personality and authenticity and felt generous - like a friend had entrusted you with their home and hand chosen and precious items. The quality of the glasses, crockery and cutlery was a cut above the usual rental and a joy to use. Also, the laptop with an English keyboard was a pleasant surprise bonus and a big plus. it meant we could Google things and immediately get a location map - it simplified the finding your way around and finding out details process enormously. It's thoughtful touches like this, that show people actually care about your experience and are not just grudgingly in it for the money. Wendy, the greeter who met us was an interesting character and gave a very thorough brief. When I foolishly left a valuable ring in the Bon Marche glove department. Wendy backed up my phone call to the store with one of her own (in much better french!!) and the story had a happy ending when the ring was handed in the day after i left Paris and Wendy went and picked it up and between us we got it couriered back to my waiting finger in Amsterdam. The location of the apartment is absolutely brilliant - couldn't be better. However, the bedrooms (on the mezzanine) is not at all private. That said, i would very happily rent the apartment again - it definitely added to a magic week in Paris.

Celia S. July, 2010 San Clemente, CA

We loved the flat on Rue Champollion! It was beautifully decorated and furnished with everything we could need, and very clean. The greeter (Wendy) was friendly and helpful. It was well stocked with DVD's and CD's which we weren't expecting, and didn't require, but came in very handy for a quiet evening at home. The restaurants on nearby Rue Monsieur le Prince were fantastic. Thanks for everything.

Sharon S June, 2010 St. Louis, MO

The staff at Haven in Paris are professional, thoughtful, and friendly. I appreciated having a contact in the US and being able to fax things back and forth. E-mails were always promptly answered and phone conversations were never hurried. I also appreciated the candor and honesty. The apartment we rented has a small capacity hot water heater, which proved not to be an issue at all, but before contracting the property I was warned about this as well as the five flights of stairs--no elevator. This is a first rate enterprise. And our greeter, Wendy, was prompt, available, welcoming and helpful. We also just enjoyed chatting with her. The Champollion apartment reflects an owner who is very attentive to detail and has a delightful sense of style. It was really fun to be there. Everything you need is at hand: a great French press coffee maker, an exceptionally comfortable bed and an amazing shower head. The bath is small but well appointed. I loved having a gas range available. We ate in the neighborhood but also cooked a couple of evenings. There is a Monoprix grocery, in fact two, nearby. Being on the Place de la Sorbonne provides great atmosphere and Les Patios is a great bar/bistro where we had one of the best hamburgers I have had in years. The bakery recommended by the owner is wonderful--friendly and excellent bread, croissants and tartes de pomme. The location is superb and we really enjoyed the Luxembourg gardens as well as the RER stop--easy access to and from Charles de Gaulle airport--we travel light so we don't mind the train and the stairs. Things to consider with this apartment: five flights of narrow spiral stairs will get you in shape and encourage you to check that you have everything you need before you go out the door; this is a student area and several cinemas are nearby--a couple of evenings it was noisy but we had all the windows open. The temperature was very mild when we were there. The loft in the apartment, which is the second bedroom, would I suspect be quite warm in the heat of August. There are fans and good cross ventilation on the main floor of the apartment but the loft might feel close if it were hot. We appreciated the inclusion of phone service and the access to a computer, which worked well for us as we needed to stay connected to both family and work. This is a charming apartment and a lovely area..we walked to Ile de Cite, to the Gare d'Orsay, the Louvre, the Arc de Triumph, but we are walkers. Everything is within easy journeys, and often interesting ones, via the Metro. We also loved the University feel of the area. We'd stay there again.

K. O'Connell June, 2010 Yardley, PA

We had a great trip to Paris. Andy picked us up at the airport the day of a transit strike so worked out perfectly. He also got us back to the airport for our return flight without any problems. Wendy greeted us at the apartment. She was very helpful and even grabbed one of our bags and did the climb to the top. The weather was sunny but hot and the apartment was fine with fans at night. Both Wendy and Andy were professional, friendly, and helpful with suggestions. Andy recommended taking Batobus water taxi the first day as a way to see the city while dealing with the long flight. We did where able to get on and off as we pleased and turned out to be a great way to start. The apartment owner's recommendations for local bakery, restaurants ,etc was also very helpful. The only issue with the apartment was the lock on the building door at the street. We had difficulty getting into the building the first time we left. There is a dead bolt which sometimes was engaged making it more challenging to open. Thanks again for your help in making our trip to Paris so memorable. *Note From HiP: Door locks in Paris are indeed tricky and we ask now that our greeters review each step of the entry procedure with guests when they arrive.

Stephen Kaplan May, 2010 Larkspur, California

Our 2 bedroom apartment in the Latin Quarter was fabulous. Clean, a warm ambiance, all the necessary amenities and a great location. We fell in love with the apartment. You walk out the door and you are in close proximity to Notre Dame, the Seine and many, many cafes. boulangeries, and great restaurants. We would certainly request this apartment on our next visit to Paris. Working with the staff at Haven in Paris was great. Our trip was caught up in the delays due to the Volcano. Erica and Sarah worked with us to find a way to get to Paris. Not only were they efficient but compassionate as well.

Mariana May, 2010 Brasil

We would like to tell you that we had a great time in your apartment. Wendy, our greeter, was a very nice person; we had no problems at all. About the apartment, we were also very pleased. The apartment is very well located, in a nice neighborhood, close to everything you might need, supermarket, restaurants, cafes, pharmacies, banks. The place is well equipped, everything was working, the apartment is nicely decorated, enough and cleans sheets, towels, etc. The only thing that is quite an inconvenient is that you have to climb up to the fifth floor with your luggage, there is no elevator. So, remember that before you pack. Another thing, if you like to take long showers, that might be a problem, because the hot water only lasts for 12 min, so if there are more then 2 people you will have to hurry a little bit.

Bea Solis April, 2010 Boise, Idaho USA

Our family of four loved the Champollion apartment. The apartment was even better than we imagined. I was a little concerned that it would be difficult for two teenagers to share the loft but it worked out just fine. The apartment is very well appointed and functional. The washer and dryer were great, with minimal planning the small hot water heater was not an issue. The neighborhood was also better than expected. Very central and convenient. The apartment was surprisingly quiet.

Kathy Besser April, 2010 California, USA

If you are looking to feel like a real Parisienne, the Champollion apartment is for you! This property is intimate, charming and very reflective of the owner's taste and love of travel. There are hundreds of books on the shelves and many interesting curios and artwork from the owner's criss-crossing of the globe. It's a visual feast to say the least. The beds are very comfortable and the incredible heater in the bathroom is a very nice touch! We stayed here during part of the recent airport shutdown and Erica could not have been sweeter or more accommodating of two girls stranded in Paris! We feel lucky to have rented twice with Haven in Paris and will recommend them (and these properties) to our friends and family. Thank you for all that you did for us!

Kelly F. April, 2010 Winnetka, Illinois

Just wanted to say I had a wonderful stay. Wendy (the greeter) was very sweet and prompt, helped me get a cab back to the airport which worked out well. Also, she let me crash early at the apt. upon arrival even though the cleaning wasn't done, but I was so tired (crowded post volcano flight) so I truly appreciated that!! The apt. was so nice, very comfortable and pretty, loved hearing the sounds of the fountains from Place de la Sorbonne, and would love to stay there again. Thank you so much.

Claudia October, 2009 Switzerland

We were absolutely happy with our apartment in the quartier latin. We enjoyed the location, the decoration and the atmosphere and the infrastructure in the flat very much. It was even hard to move the kids out in the streets as they felt so much at home. There is nothing to complain about. Everything was great. Wendy gave us a warm welcome with a nice bunch of flowers and she did a very good job in introducing us to all the specialties of the flat.

Tim Martin October, 2009 Jacksonville, FL

Apartment was in a wonderful location in the St. Germain area close to everything and a convenient Metro stop. Was nice to have access to a computer and free telephone service. Would definitely recommend this apartment for 2 but a bit small for 2 couples. Also be aware of the 5 flights of stairs which were not a problem for my wife and I but might be if not physically fit. Wendy the HIP contact was very helpful and prompt.

We had a very fine stay in Paris. The apartment was lovely, along with Wendy our greeter. We had Bruno pick us up at the airport and drop us off and he was very professional and kind. The apartment's overall feeling was nice and eclectic and casual. The linens and the towels were wonderfully pressed and beautiful and white. We did cook a lot at home so for the kitchen I would suggest updating the pots and pans.** Everything else in the kitchen was fine, the dishes and glasses were just what we needed. It was a great location having the Luxembourg gardens just a couple of blocks away. Also the binder in the apartment was very useful for the markets, banks, and doctors (we almost needed one but luckily not this trip!). We did really have a nice time - thanks for everything! ** Note from HiP: New, higher quality pots & pans are to be purchased in October 2009.

The apartment was gorgeous, well appointed and convenient to everything. The owner has lovely taste and we found we had everything we needed (truly!) Despite the dog days of August, the apt. really was quite cool and comfortable without a/c. We had two fans that we used occasionally. The apt has exceptional media/computer equipment, the phone was useful to call the states at no additional cost to us and the wi-fi was perfect once we figured out how to log in...make sure you do that reading the book's instructions carefully. The apt was very quiet and the only noise we heard was at night from the surrounding cafes playing some lovely music....which was charming and never bothersome. The music ceased fairly early so that it was never a problem with sleep. The five flights of stairs were not an issue after the first day when we arrived with luggage. They are carpeted and narrow but well lit and easy to climb. Our two daughters never complained once about them. Note - everything was spotless in the apt. It was exceptionally, exceptionally clean and nothing was worn, torn or failed to work (except the washer.) The bathroom was beautiful and, again, very, very clean. The towels were plentiful, fluffy and nice and of 4-5 star hotel quality, as were the linens. The apt. is in a perfect area - close to everything. We walked everywhere and had no trouble with the Paris metro either. The street the apt is on is a small street one block off from the Sorbonne. Most taxi drivers do not know it but all have GPS and ours was able to find the apt easily the day we arrived. The apt is in an area with many movie - really film - theaters. Restaurants are plentiful as are grocery stores. The gardens are just up the street, as is the Pantheon. The only hiccup we had was that the new washer broke during our stay and could not be used. That was no big deal to us and HIP did everything they could to get it working asap. HIP was very responsive to our notice of the washer problem.

We loved this apartment! And although the photographs on the website are good they really don’t give you a feel for the place as it is even better than the pictures! The best feature has to be the gorgeous space created by the beautiful exposed beams, this doesn’t seem to translate on camera very well but you get a feeling of height and space as you walk through the front door which is doubly good as it is unexpected. Both bedrooms are lovely, but I preferred the second bedroom at the top of the flat as it makes an unusual and interesting room tucked into the roof space but is still spacious. Everything was clean, tidy, well decorated and with some nice features such as the copper taps in the kitchen and some beautiful unusual furniture pieces. The location is perfect, within walking distance of some great shopping and bars/restaurants etc. and also the Luxembourg gardens which are quite spectacular and perfect for lazing in on sunny days. Because you are at the top of the building the whole flat is light and so calm and quiet which was a welcoming, relaxing place to come into after a hard days sightseeing. We were only there for a short time but would have happily stayed a month!

We loved staying in the apartment and would love to come back. We found the apartment just as we had anticipated from the pictures, an antique decor, well equipped and very comfortable. It was very conveniently located and we enjoyed walking everywhere. We also used the Velib bikes and found that the three locations near the apartment generally had bikes available when we needed them and spaces available when we returned (something we had difficulty with in other areas of Paris). Our kids loved the loft bedroom and counting the stairs every time we returned to the apartment, and everything about the apartment was an adventure for them. We enjoyed a couple of meals at the cafes/restaurants just down the street in the Place de la Sorbonne, and at Au Pere Louis, which the owner recommended. We also enjoyed eating at a very small one Bistro One, which I believe was on either Rue Racine or Rue de L'ecole de Medicine. Thanks for offering such a wonderful apartment in your portfolio!

I stayed in this charming rooftop apartment for a week with my son. The apartment is centrally located in a busy area, but it is situated on a very quiet street which was more like a pedestrian way than a street. It is one block from Saint Michel Blvd., 2 blocks from the Cluny/Sorbonne Metro and RER station, and steps from the lovely Sorbonne Plaza with several cafes right there. This Latin Quarter location was ideal for seeing all of the main sites of Paris. We walked everywhere and only took the metro a few times. We used the RER B line for transit from and to the airport. Every morning I popped out to pick up pastries and fruit while my son showered. The apartment itself was very comfortable and tastefully decorated. The building had medieval timbered supports yet had a very modern bathroom and kitchen. We really appreciated having a laptop computer, free phone calls to the U.S.A., and a washing machine. There is one bedroom with a queen bed and a loft with a queen bed (the loft was very private). Be aware this rooftop apartment is 77 steps from the ground level and no lift. We felt very safe in the apartment and in the neighborhood. Haven In Paris was very easy to deal with and book through. My reservation was completed quickly and conveniently via one phone call and online. The price they quoted was inclusive – no last minute cleaning or service charges. I especially appreciated having a greeter, Wendy, who met us at the apartment to show us around and answer any questions. In fact I kept Wendy’s phone number with me all the time. For the price of a 3 star hotel room, we had the comfort of a charming 2 bedroom rooftop apartment!
