Meet the Haven in Paris Team:
Erica Berman grew up in the US. After graduating from Syracuse University's Newhouse School of Journalism, and surviving a summer of intensive language immersion at Middlebury College (Vermont), Erica came to Paris with hopes of submerging herself in French culture and perfecting her French. The goal; remain in France 6-12 months before heading back to the US to look for a real job. Many years later her Parisian experiences range from waitressing in a wine bar, attending photography school, founding another successful vacation rental company and decorating a lot of Parisian apartments. For the past 5 years she has been the creator, manager and owner of Haven in Paris and the blog HiP Paris. Erica now splits her time between Paris, the US and Italy. In her all-too-rare free time, Erica likes to travel off the beaten track, explore Paris, read, take photos, cook, ski, hike and enjoy long Sunday brunches with her friends.
Genevieve was born in New York City but raised between London and Paris with summers spent in the vineyards of Bordeaux. She completed high school in Paris, and then crossed the Atlantic to attend Vassar College (New York). After graduating with a degree in International studies, she moved to New York City to cover restaurants and nightlife for a hip online magazine. In her spare time she loves to check out new restaurants and shops (look for her reviews on the HiP blog!) and scour Paris and New York for undiscovered gems. Genevieve lives in New York city and occasionally travels to Paris, where she gets to enjoy her family's home-cooked meals and keep tabs on the Haven in Paris properties and service providers. From her base in New York she works tirelessly to ensure everything is running smoothly.
Ariel Kocourek was born in Bend, Oregon, lived with her family in England, and now calls North Carolina home. A global adventurer, she’s spent countless summers traveling with friends throughout the four corners of Europe. She keeps up with her international contacts by returning as often as possible and loves nothing more than a good road trip through the french countryside. After graduating from Appalachian State University with a degree in Interior Design, Ariel built a career in commercial architecture. Her passion for history, architecture, and art makes Paris her favorite city in the world. At Haven in Paris, she puts her project management skills to use, guiding you through your booking and ensuring your trip will make you fall in love with the city like she has.
Elise was born and raised in New York where she originally pursued a dance career. She holds an MFA in Dance from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and has performed around the world. Her love affair with Paris began as a teenager during a family vacation in France. She was immediately entranced by the City of Light and vowed upon arrival that she would one day return to live there. During a hiatus from dancing, she moved to Paris and earned a BA in Film & Media from the American University of Paris, followed by a Certificat de Langue et Civilisation Française from La Sorbonne. Throughout the years, Elise has taken every opportunity to return to Paris and has traveled extensively throughout Europe. She is thrilled to be a part of the Haven in Paris team and aims to introduce as many people as possible to Paris, her favorite city in the world.
Erin was born in upstate New York, but always had a desire to live the city life. This brought her to Fordham University in New York City, from which she graduated with degrees in International Political Economy and French Language and Literature. Erin currently resides in Manhattan, where she can be found searching for its best baguette when she is not sampling the city’s other varied fare. Though a New Yorker, Erin has had a whimsical affair with Paris since her first trip as a wide-eyed teenager and has been eager for an opportunity to return long-term ever since. At Haven in Paris, Erin splits her time between communicating with travelers, writing for the HiP Paris blog and connecting with fellow Francophiles on Twitter and Facebook.
Tory grew up in West Hartford, Connecticut but spent summers in the wilderness outside of Montreal, Quebec, where she developed a passion for the French language and maple syrup. She attended Brown University and graduated with a degree in International Relations. While in college, she spent a semester studying at Prague's FAMU Film Academy, and while Prague is "the Paris of Eastern Europe," she vowed to live in the real Paris someday. After working at a boutique marketing consultancy in New York for two years, Tory spent a year in Paris pursuing a career in freelance writing and blogging. She spent time aimlessly wandering in Paris' many gardens, thinking deeply on the banks of the Seine, and sampling food at various open-air markets throughout the city. She now splits her time between Paris, New York, and Montreal. Tory regularly contributes to the HiP blog.
CARIN OLSSON Editorial Assistant - HiP Paris
Carin Olsson takes the chance to travel whenever she can. Although born in Sweden she's probably better suited for a life in Paris – strolling along the left bank, nibbling on sugary treats from favorite Hugo & Victor, or simply enjoying the views from Quai d'Orléans. Ever since she moved to Paris for four short months (during the rainiest spring of them all…) she's been dreaming about going back. More than anything Carin loves her sweets and her camera, which is always within arm's reach.
A charming, knowledgeable and friendly anglophone greeter will meet you at your Haven in Paris property upon arrival (no keys under mats, in mailboxes or sent through the post). You will be in touch with your greeter before arrival and will have their contact information so you can call or email if you have specials needs, or if your arrival plans change. Your greeter will be waiting for you in the apartment the day you arrive and will happily settle you in, answer your questions and acquaint you with the particularities of your flat or villa to ensure you have a relaxing stay in the property. Your greeter will remain a phone call away at all times during your stay to troubleshoot, offer recommendations or suggestions, and point you towards favorite neighborhood gems. They will be on hand when you check out to check the apartment, find out about your stay, make sure your taxi arrives, and help with the last minute details of your departure.
